So many new automotive businesses are growing in our car world and I thought it was important to show them off. We had an opportunity awhile back to do just that, as we followed CMA Restoration go from an idea, to a concept, to a building, to a reality and we wanted to share a little of that journey so you could see what it was like.

Everybody loves the aftermarket scene, they love patina and rust and that old abused look, but just as many people don't think about what the interior dynamic should feel like. Is it soft and driver friendly? Does it shift nice, does it drive nice? What would it take for the interior to be converse to the exterior? Look the part, but drive like a dream? Well today we visit Spike's Speed Shop and answer that very question with their 1960 Chevrolet Biscayne! This is a Ferrari P80/C.
At first you may just see it as another Ferrari and you wouldn’t be wrong. Solid lines, great design queue, functionally sound, but for me it’s something I didn’t realize I missed. See, I’ve seen cars like this before. Look at any of those ‘70s Italian sports cars and you’ll see this classic wedge shape over and over. Then fast forward and it gained prominence with cars like the Detomaso Pantera, a car we all wanted more of. The Lamborghini Jalpa got on board as well, but these were more exceptions than the rule. Back then we were shocked Italian brands didn’t do more of this and when the 458 came out I have to be honest, I didn’t see this natural evolution taking place. Yet, here we are and I can really appreciate this lineage more than I realize. There is a depressing statement to go with this, that this car is also an exception. This is a result of years of design for a car that will see limited production and will flash in the pan and I’m more worried that kids today won’t get the opportunity to enjoy this, in my humble opinion, perfect styling and a great example of how good design can survive the test of time! I hope we see more of this. It’s eye catching and functional. The automotive world sometimes learns from its mistakes and from its victories. The P80 just proves that a majority of these wins are indeed, on the track. http://www.990wbob.com/past-casts/the-car-grumps-stock-or-aftermarket?fbclid=IwAR0wi33WBxtGaOD3Q3Teo8jyvwJzLGMyalk0hCwJb_HnFl0CA1r4mc3U3d4Have you ever look at your car and thought, I can't modify this, it'll be worth money down the road! Have you ever modified a car and actually improved its value?
This is a conundrum that many automotive enthusiasts and car owners consider ad nauseum. What modification is too much? What isn't enough? It suddenly becomes a relevant question when an Acura Integra Type R sells for $65,000 at auction! Do you have gold or should you tear it down and make it your own? We'll discuss on the next Car Grumps! Check out the broadcast here: Click here. |
